FAQ

Common questions about Empauer.

Clear answers about our sustainability software, advisory services and how organisations use Empauer to turn data into decisions.

What is Empauer?

Empauer is an Australian sustainability software and advisory company headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria. It helps organisations turn fragmented sustainability and operational data into structured evidence for better commercial and environmental decisions. Empauer combines specialist software with practical advisory work: Venta for packaging governance and Direct for food loss and waste intelligence, supported by advisory services in packaging, food loss and waste, life cycle assessment (LCA) and ESG and sustainability reporting. Its approach is built on numbers, not narratives: audit-ready data, evidence that can be reviewed and explained, and analysis that translates environmental data into the language of cost, risk and opportunity. Empauer has deepened this capability through applied research with RMIT University and End Food Waste Australia, industry trials, peer reviews and extensive work globally. Today that work supports pharmaceutical manufacturers, multinational beverage businesses, major food and produce groups, and consumer goods leaders across Australia and overseas.

What does Empauer Direct do?

Direct is Empauer's food loss and waste intelligence platform. It was developed by Empauer with RMIT University and the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre. Direct maps where food and non-food materials flow across a supply chain, then quantifies food loss and waste by volume, value and impact. Aligned to the FLW Standard and ISO 14051 (Material Flow Cost Accounting), it counts more than disposal: the true cost includes the value of inputs, labour, energy, water, packaging, logistics and lost product. Teams use Direct to identify hotspots across products, sites, processes and destinations, compare reduction scenarios and build the business case for operational change. In a 2020 pilot, Olam Orchards Australia used Direct to map material flows and determine the true cost of materials flowing to non-product destinations, including almond hulls used as animal feed. Direct applies across fresh produce, food service and care, and industry programmes that need consistent measurement and benchmarking.

What is Empauer Venta used for?

Venta is Empauer's packaging governance platform. It gives organisations a structured way to collect, govern and use packaging information across products, suppliers and markets, in place of scattered spreadsheets and email chains. Venta keeps a governed record of packaging components, formats, materials, weights, suppliers, evidence and approvals, with audit trails and change history, so teams can explain the basis of their packaging decisions. Because Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees depend on data quality, Venta helps organisations bring packaging data into a structured format that supports EPR calculations, eco-modulation analysis and market-specific reporting. It also shows where missing material classifications, supplier evidence or product records could affect fee estimates or compliance. A supplier portal lets suppliers submit packaging records, declarations, specifications and certificates through a controlled process, so procurement, packaging and sustainability teams can track incomplete submissions and act with clarity.

Who uses Empauer software?

Empauer software is used by the teams responsible for turning sustainability data into decisions. Typical users include sustainability leaders, operations and supply chain directors, packaging technologists and product teams, and CFOs and commercial leadership across agriculture, food, packaging, logistics and consumer goods organisations. Each team gets the view it needs from the same trusted evidence base. Operations and supply chain teams use Direct to map food and non-food flows end to end, quantify the true cost of waste and compare scenarios to optimise resource efficiency. Packaging and product teams use Venta to govern specifications and product data in one place, support life cycle assessment of packaging decisions and stay ahead of evolving packaging regulation such as EPR. Finance and commercial leaders use Empauer evidence to quantify cost and risk, not just emissions, and to prioritise initiatives by commercial return. Case studies on the site include Olam Orchards Australia and Australia Post.

Where is Empauer based?

Empauer is based in Melbourne, Australia. The company is Empauer Pty Ltd (ABN 95 614 415 146), headquartered at 21–23 Stewart St, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 3121, and can be reached on +61 3 9020 7295 or info@empauer.com. From Melbourne, Empauer serves clients across Australia and New Zealand and works internationally. Its software runs in a web browser, so teams in different sites, regions and markets can work from the same evidence base, and the website is available in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. Empauer's applied research has been carried out with RMIT University and End Food Waste Australia, and Direct was developed with RMIT University and the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre. To arrange a conversation or a live demo of Direct or Venta, use the contact form at empauer.com/contact. Demos are available on request for both platforms.

Does Empauer provide consultancy as well as software?

Yes. Empauer provides both specialist software and advisory services. Its advisory work covers four disciplines. Packaging advice connects technical evidence, supplier data, compliance requirements and commercial priorities, covering packaging data reviews, environmental impacts, recyclability, EPR readiness and improvement pathways, and can be supported by Venta. Food loss and waste advice covers measurement frameworks, hotspot analysis, true cost modelling, intervention planning, benchmarking and reporting support, and can be supported by Direct for ongoing measurement. LCA and product impact work uses life cycle assessment, packaging impact assessment, material comparisons and scenario modelling to translate technical results into clear trade-offs and recommendations. ESG and sustainability reporting support strengthens the evidence, data and governance behind disclosures, from evidence mapping and data gap reviews to claims review and reporting preparation. Each engagement focuses on what the data says, where the risks are and which changes are most realistic.
